This part of the
Dorset coast, between Lyme Regis and Charmouth, derives its name from
the dark grey Jurassic rocks and mudflows, which are subject to frequent
landslips. Spatterings of flowering gorse and scrub combine with fossilized
shell forms to suggest the upheaval created by immense geological
forces.
